Dalia Al-Aqidi Urges Federal Oversight After 3,000 Questionable Voter Records Identified in Hennepin County
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 12, 2026
Minneapolis, MN — Dalia Al-Aqidi, candidate for Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District, today sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi expressing serious concern about voter roll irregularities in Hennepin County and thanking the Department of Justice for its efforts to review Minnesota’s voter registration rolls for federal compliance.
The letter follows revelations this week by Rep. Pam Altendorf, Vice Chair of the MN House Elections Committee, that a review of Hennepin County’s voter file identified approximately 3,000 records with missing information, potential duplicate entries, and a precinct in which roughly 21 percent of ballots were challenged.
“These findings raise serious questions about how our elections are being administered and whether voter rolls are being properly maintained,” Al-Aqidi wrote. “When thousands of records are incomplete or questionable, the system that maintains them must be thoroughly reviewed to restore trust in the voting process.”
Hennepin County, currently represented by Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, encompasses Al-Aqidi’s entire congressional district and represents 20 percent of the state’s population. Given its size and electoral influence, irregularities here can swing statewide and federal outcomes.
“What happens in Hennepin County does not stay in Hennepin County,” Al-Aqidi said. “When questions arise in a jurisdiction that carries this level of influence, the consequences extend well beyond local politics.”
In her letter, Al-Aqidi cited federal statutes including the Civil Rights Act of 1960, the National Voter Registration Act, and the Help America Vote Act. She emphasized that election integrity is not a partisan issue and urged that concerns be addressed well in advance of the November 2026 election.
“Voters in Hennepin County and across Minnesota deserve elections they can believe in,” Al-Aqidi said. “That begins with voter rolls that are accurate and complete. Anything less cannot be tolerated any longer.”
